At Struppa (a northern Genoa’s suburb), the gym and sporting facilities of Suppini’s place were provided with a new plant for production of hot water by solar energy.
Energy efficient housing in the Western Harbour thanks to a dialogue with developers
Posted by: | CommentsWhen the development of the former industrial area in the Western Harbour started, a sustainable district of the city was created. Energy efficiency demands were part of the concept for the first developmental step in the housing expo Bo01 in 2001.
An important part of the concept is low energy use in the buildings. Each unit is only allowed to use 105 kWh per m2 per year, including heating and household electricity. Several of the buildings have met the targets. But there are a number of buildings where the energy consumption exceeds the target excessively. Investigations on why the targets have not been met are ongoing, and the energy consumption is measured continuously.
As a consequence, in the following steps of the development of the Western Harbour, demands on energy consumption were stressed more.
In the second part of the development, energy consumption should not exceed 120 kWh per m2 per year, in the third phase the number is yet to be decided on. It will however be lower than 110 kWh per m2 per year. A considerable number of buildings is expected to stay lower than 80 kWh per m2 per year.
