Energy efficiency (practical projects)

Introduction

Achieve a sustainable future through energy efficiency-Reduction of local air pollution and improvement of residents’ health.

Objectives and target audience

The Objectives are the below:-

  • Environmental benefits-Reduction of greenhouse gases emissions and local air pollution;
  • Saving energy, reduction of energy use;
  • Economic benefits (Cost saving- Lower energy bills);
  • Help to make the local environment healthier;
  • Citizens activation and sensitization -Adoption of eco-friendly behavior-Raise awareness on climate change.

The target group is all citizens (personnel and residents)  of Amaroussion’ s Municipality.

Financial Resources and Partners involved

The Municipality finances the project either itself or from national (co-funded by the 3rd CFP for Greece) or European funds.

Process

  • Definition of energy consumption needs
  • Studies about the application of energy efficiency  techniques
  • Measurements and comparisons of energy consumption before and after the application of energy efficient technologies
  • Corrective actions

Results

People’s awareness has risen. It seems that the local air is improving and there are some economic benefits as well due to the lower bills.

Critical Success Factors / Challenges

The key issues for success are:-

  • Economical and political support and intention;
  • Creation of  performance targets;
  • Organized studies;
  • Set timelines for actions.
