Introduction

Achieve a sustainable future through energy efficient procurements

Objectives and target audience

The Objectives are as follows:-
•    Environmental benefits-Reduction of greenhouse gases emissions and local air pollution;
•    Saving energy, reduction of energy use;
•    Achieving a sustainable energy future;
•    Economic benefits (Conserving energy is saving money-cost saving)- Lower energy bills;
•    Smart living;
•    Citizen activation and sensitization -Adoption of eco-friendly behavior.

The target group are the citizens of Amaroussion’s municipality.
Project’s application: to all  the municipal buildings.

Financial Resources and Partners involved

This project is financed by the municipality of Amaroussion.  This project (PRO-EE) is also co-financed by the European Union.  The Centre of Renewable Energy Recourses (CRES) is partner of the project which also a consulting role.

Process

•    Compendium of measures (contains the strategies to be followed when developing a consistent and comprehensive energy efficiency policy).  The compendium serves as a checklist for the inventory, as a pool of ideas and as a planning instrument for the selection and prioritisation of measures;
•    Proposal of how to integrate energy efficiency in to the procurements schemes of the different departments;
•    To list the options to decide upon the fields and with what actions the administration can take in order to determine the further steps towards integrating energy efficiency into its day –to-day function and particularly in its procurement policy.
•    Elaboration of an action plan for energy efficiency in the municipal administration.

Results

The expected result is the creation of a common awareness among the people responsible within the administration on the current state of affairs in the field of energy efficiency and public procurement.  Through the dissemination, it is expected the increase of public awareness of the need for responsible consumption.

Critical Success Factors / Challenges

The key issues for success are:-
•    Create performance targets for each facility, department, and operation of the organization to track progress towards achieving goals;
•    Set timelines for actions, including meetings to evaluate progress, completion dates, milestones and expected outcomes;
•    Definition as priority-Political support.
