Study for the integration of Renewable Energy Technologies to the former Municipal Abattoir building.

Introduction

The Centre for Renewable Energy Sources of Greece will study the integration of Renewable Energy Technologies to the building of the former Municipal Abattoirs.

Objectives and target audience

Project’s objectives:-
a)    Reduction of the centre’s energy consumption;
b)    thermal and lighting comfort throughout the year;
c)    least possible impact upon the environment.

Target audience: the population of Greater Thessaloniki

Financial Resources and Partners involved

The total cost of the project is expected to reach 9.000.000 €.
The cost for the study by CRES is  35.000 € and it will be financed by the Municipality of Thessaloniki  The construction will be financed by national and European community funds.

Process

CRES undertakes the following tasks: to examine and improve the existing architectural design, to produce a simulation model, to make energy consumption and energy production estimates, to define technical specifications, to support the Municipality of Thessaloniki during the selection and supply of photovoltaics, to investigate the financing of construction, the determine the type and number of geothermal heat pumps, to deliver all necessary geological and MEP studies for the approval of the project by the authorities.

Results

The results will be presented in the more detailed case study.

Critical Success Factors / Challenges

Key issue for the success of the project is all the input and know-how transfer by the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources of Greece.
