Intelligent and energy efficient buildings (both refurbishment and new build)
ByIntroduction
Reduction of pollution and improvement of local air
Objectives and target audience
The objectives are as follows:-
- Implementation of sustainable development principles- Achieving a sustainable energy future;
- Environmental benefits- Reduction of greenhouse gases emissions and local air pollution;
- Saving energy, reduction of energy use;
- Economic benefits – Lower energy bills.
The target group are the citizens of Amaroussion’s municipality. Project’s application: to minicipal buildings (such as the municipal swimming pool, and school units).
Financial Resources and Partners involved
The Municipality finances the project either from national (co-funded by the 3rd CFP for Greece) or European funds. The Centre of Renewable Energy Recourses (CRES) is partner of the project and has a consulting role as well. The installation of a photovoltaic system was co-funded both of the European Commission and the Greek Ministry of Development.
Process
- Definition of energy consumption needs;
- Drafting of a guide on the specifications of energy planning;
- Buildings Study;
- Application of energy efficient technologies;
- Measurements and comparisons of energy consumption before and after the application of energy efficient technologies.
Results
It appears that initiation of these projects have caused a reduction. There is a reduction, as far as it concerns the concentrations of CO, NOx, SO2 and benzene. There are economic benefits as well due to the lower bills.
Critical Success Factors / Challenges
The key issues for success are:-
- Economical support;
- Smart studies in the existing buildings in order to achieve the best energy efficiency;
- Political support and intention.
