About the PEPESEC Energy Planning Knowledge Base

The aim of the PEPESEC Knowledge Base is to bring together the experience and expertise of the PEPESEC project partners by highlighting best practice and new approaches to energy planning at the city-region level.

The knowledge base is a repository for current European best practice guidance in participatory community energy planning.  The site provides a centre where existing best practice is collated during the initial stages of the PEPESEC project. New research developed during the project will be added to the knowledge base, including the experiences gained from international workshops, study visits and the proceedings from the project conferences throughout the rest of the project.

The knowledge base currently features over 170 short case studies about past and present energy planning projects.

As the site develops, it aims to include the following:

Detailed Case Studies – These are much more substantial in content when compared to the short case studies which give an in depth approach on the energy planning process from partners municipalities and from wider EU examples.

Study Visit Reports – this enables the partners to share knowledge about what each visiting city has in terms of already existing energy strategies/plans, projects, schemes, etc.  It is also a time in which partners can give their ideas on visiting cities on how they can improve already existing climate strategies, etc.  The reports will show the results, outcomes and partner thoughts from the study visits.

Analysis of the Short Case Studies – this will be an analysis of each short case study to decide whether they are:

  • Energy Savings
  • Environmentally benign
  • Economically viable
  • Socially and politically acceptable
  • Replicability
  • Boosting Co-operation

About the Pepesec project

The PEPESEC project (Partnership Energy Planning as a tool for realising European Sustainable Energy Communities) will support the emergence of European sustainable energy communities through increasing the use of local community planning for the efficient supply, distribution and use of RES (Renewable Energy Sources) and conventional energy, demand-side management and associated mobility. You can read more about the project on the main PEPESEC website.
